RTXP - Art Experience in Amsterdam (Permanently Closed)

RTXP Amsterdam was an art gallery exhibition which featured 50 replicas of some of the world’s most iconic paintings. The name RTXP stood for ‘art experience’. In 2024 RTXP Amsterdam closed its doors.

RTXP was opened in January 2023 by a father and son team and is located in De Pijp district of Amsterdam close to the Heineken Brewery.

It was housed in a monumental building on the corner of Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat and Ferdinand Bolstraat. This was built in 1882 in neoclassical style and was a former school.

RTXP had oil painted full-size replicas of many renowned artists from the Renaissance period to more modern times. The art was presented in a quirky and colourful way in light filled rooms.

There was a dedicated room to Vincent Van Gogh with replica works including the Sunflowers, Irises, Almond Blossoms, Terrace of a Cafe at Night, Mulberry Tree and the Starry Night.

Other Dutch artist replicas included a Rembrandt room (with a copy of the Nightwatch) and works derived from Rietveld, Vermeer and Mondrian.

You could find Renaissance-era replica works from the likes of Hieronymus Bosch (Garden of Earthly Delights), Sandro Botticelli (The Birth of Venus) and Leonardo Da Vinci (Mona Lisa).

Each painting had a scannable QR code which gave you more background info and audio on your own device.

For social media lovers there was an immersive room of Monet’s Garden in Giverny with its Japanese bridge.

More modern replicas included those from Degas, Gaugin, Hopper, Klimt, Munch and Renoir.

RTXP stated that all the art on display is available for sale.

There was a small bar in the Rembrandt room which sold drinks and sweet bites.

Although some critics questioned the concept and quality of some of the copies, RTXP was a fun journey around the history of art. Unfortunately RTXP was not able to continue profitably.
